OUR HISTORY

Three Weeks Notice Collective had its humble beginnings in August of 2019 in a therapy-space bungalow in Highland Park, where director Lauren Lovett brought together an ensemble of theatre artists to dive deep into an immersive production of Tracy Letts’ translation of Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters.

As March of 2020 moved us all into an unforeseen new reality, we went into Zoom rehearsals. We finally came back together in the summer of 2021, and sat around Lauren’s kitchen table with popcorn and the Three Sisters text. It felt…different! We were different people ourselves, after all. As an exercise, we started our devising process for what a reimagined Three Sisters might look like if it took place during COVID lockdown – what is our “Moscow” that each of us had been longing for?

After another year of devising and writing—we created our first work, Conversations in Exile, named by writer and actor Ben Edlin. It is the story of a family that becomes both insular and exposed as they navigate lockdown during the pandemic. We announced our staged reading of Conversations in Exile three weeks before the showing. We noted most theatrical productions go up with about three weeks of steady rehearsal, and we all wanted to give our respective bosses three weeks’ notice to quit and make theater 24/7. And so – Three Weeks Notice Collective was born.

At Three Weeks Notice Collective, we celebrate the ever-evolving nature of theatre, where each performance is a unique exploration of the human spirit. Join us on this remarkable journey as we break the boundaries of creativity, ignite imaginations, and bring the magic of theatre to life.
